Smile of the month: Jun

N°14 - mar. 2009

It’s certainly not a common name in France, and it is often necessary for him to repeat his name when someone has him on the telephone for the first time.  No, not John, it’s Jun.  And it is precisely because he is Japanese that he has such a name.  As with Andréas, the Collège’s General Secretary, Jun came to the Collège his first time as a student, then he came back, and then he stayed.

Jun is Noël’s assistant in the Student activities office.  He works with him on the monthly activities preparation, as well as an advisor for the students concerning activities in and outside of the Collège, as well as assisting for the various more active parts of student activities, such as: welcoming new students arriving at the Airport, serving at our various special events (he has become a veritable pro at crêpe making), and of course the Collège’s liaison for the various Japanese groups that frequent the Collège.  But Jun has other talents and hobbies that are important to him: theater and cinema, two projects that one might not guess immediately, knowing that he studied law.
It is upon his arrival in France and learning our language that he really branched out, forgetting the legal jargon to take up a more creative path.

He studied cinema in Paris for two years at the Conservatoire Libre of French Cinema (founded by Marcel Carné and Jacques Prévert), in the “assistant director” section.  His interest in cinema has brought him to encounter many interesting works and artists that would surprise more than just French cinema fans.
It was at the Collège that he first took an interest in Cinema, with the course in theatrical expression which allowed to more easily speak the French language.  Since then, he has been part of the Compagnie Sakountala where he plays his part as actor and stage manager in turn with the others of this troupe.Even though he has become considerably more and more “French”, notably for his taste for the cuisine, Jun keeps his reserved discretion proper to his native culture, which is evident at the dinner table where he is the quieter one among the sometimes voluble and usually loud.

In short, in the student activities office, our Jun is as hard working as he is calm.
