The Linguistic Profile reformed

The form of the linguistic profile has changed. Why? How? Questions, answers.

The pedagogical profile, for what ?

At the end of their studies, the students appreciate having in their possession a readable document at the international level. From here comes the creation of a test of knowledge of general French language. The PROFILE is therefore a convenient instrument of final evaluation that responds to the needs of teachers and students.

Of what is the test composed ?

The PROFILE evaluates the oral and written comprehension and production of students as well as their knowledge of structures of French language.
This is done through 3 tests (written comprehension, oral comprehension, lexical and structure) constructed on a system of MCQ (Multiple choice questions), each question only having one correct answer. Two other tests permit the evaluation of oral and written expression.

Certificate ? Proof of completion ?

The obtained result of the test is presented to the student with a certificate certifying a level of competence from A1 to C2.

What improvements have been brought from the pedagogical team from the Collège ?

The changes brought concern the presentation and especially the realization of documents for oral comprehension; as a consequence, the test has a shorter duration. Certain sections have been shortened, certain questions modified. We have included breaks. In addition, in the case where teachers are not available, even a non-specialized person can proctor the test. Of course, only a professor will correct the completed test. The rules for correction have also been reformed.

And the final document is...

A final document on which the obtained results are figured in each competence is handed back to the student at the same time as a certificate of completion of a certain course level. Thanks to this additional information, it is possible to see exactly where the student is in regards to his knowledge of the language.

Other Frequently Asked Questions :

The Linguistic Profile : What is it ?

It’s a test that permits a precise evaluation of your level in French in each competence: written expression, oral expression, written comprehension, oral comprehension, lexical and structure.

If I pass it, do I get a diploma?

Everyone passes it. It’s not a graded test.
The document that summarizes the results is given to you with your diploma where your global level appears. You will thus have a general evaluation and an evaluation of your competence.

How do I prepare for it ?

There is no preparation for it because it’s a general “picture” of your level. All the work you do in class helps prepare you, of course.

When do I take it ?

At the end of your session, before leaving, in general the last week of the session. If you stay 3 months at the collège, you’ll take it the third month.

Do I have to take it ?

No. You take it if you want. It’s optional. Until today, the majority of students ask to take it, even if those who take it also take the DELF the same week.

How long does it last ?

Three hours but there are breaks between the sections.

How many times can I take it ?

As many times as you want, but it’s better to wait until you’ve progressed; otherwise, your results will be the same.

When do I receive the results ?

We let you know the results the next day, but the document won’t be given to you until you leave because it completes your diploma.

How much does it cost ?

It’s totally free.
