And Now ? Stefan Rappo

N°11 - Dec. 2008

With the publication of “Visages de la Photo”, Stefan Rappo, a former Swiss student at the Collège, brilliantly continues a path he had begun at the Collège International.

Stefan Rappo is among the students who decided to come back to work here, after his first stay at the Collège.  This was about ten years ago now, and he has kept in touch ever since.  In 2005, he made an unintended proposal.  Being that he was beginning his career as a photographer, to thank the Collège, he offered to make portraits of the personnel.

Many of us agreed to participate.  The result was remarkable.  These photos decorated the dinning room for a time, and were used for the 2005-2006 greeting card.
Today, Stefan works in Paris as a fashion photographer, but his passion for the portrait is stronger than ever.  The fifty-seven photos put together in his work "Visages de la Photo" were produced with an older technique almost forgotten Fifty-seven faces captured from up-close, which gives a very staggering presence.  The models are the opposites of the standard stereotypical models ever-present in the media, after Photoshop of course.  Stefan took photos of ordinary people, and notably the "people who work in photography, because," as he said, "I wanted to have people who understand the background, without which there is no photo." With this gallery of portraits, photography once again finds its original essence where the person prevails over the image, but where the image brings out the person.
