Tino gives an introductory course in pottery.
Tino isn’t just a simple smiling student activities employee who leads groups of students on excursions and who welcomes them into our bar/café. By trade, he is a potter and in his family pottery is a long living tradition. Tino had, for a longtime, the idea of introducing his artisanship to the students of our college, but for him a simple visit to his workshop in Vallauris wouldn’t have been sufficient. What he wished was to put the students in front of the wheel and let them create their own piece. In November, his idea became a reality. In the lapse of an afternoon, Tino transformed the gym into a workshop and his beginner’s course in pottery had begun. A few hours and a few laughs later, the novice potters were able to show off their first works of art. All that was left for Tino was to cook them, at 1,020 degrees Celsius, to glaze them and to re-cook them at 980 degrees. After a week of drying, the students were able to pick up their works. For some of them, their personnel creation will make a 100% original Christmas present.
