Peter and Ulf : back to Cannes on vacation with the family for our "two historic Swedes".

Twenty years later (and even longer…)! Hardly believable. Peter and Ulf were students at the Collège in the early 80’s, staying each one for a year long; a common occurrence at the time. These two were so talented that we decided to keep them here to work with us. One day in September 1985, Peter found himself working in our main office, where he was a welcomed addition to our team. Peter closely resembled the singer for the group “Europe” (for those who can remember…” long hair, bracelets all over and of course the “snus”, the tobacco pouches that one puts inside one’s upper lip, that he would have sent from Sweden, and that he would spit out into the garbage when a new visitor would enter the office. When he left, Christmas of 1986 (as he needed to finish his studies), it was Ulf who replaced him. No snus for him, but a strong dependence upon his “petits cafés”, of which one would not have to look long to find empty coffee cups on his desk or even in his drawer.

He stayed until the summer of ’88, but as they were indispensible members of the team the Collège called them back several summers to work for the season. Since the first time though, Peter had since cut his hair.

So many similarities between the two: Energy, wonderful sense of humor and true theatrical talent. The two had taken theatre courses while students at the Collège, as well as during the time they spent working in the office. Peter in the Jungle Book, Dracula, and Madame Irma; Ulf in “facteur qui sonne deux fois”, the Poupon Dictature, Romantic Heros and in Indian ; and the two of them, in the beginning together in Quick-tempered Babies. These images are part of the Collège International de Cannes Anthology.
Today, the friendship born in Cannes is still intact. They live with their families just minutes from each other. Ulf has two sons, while Peter has a son and a daughter. Ulf is now a broker for a large Swedish bank and Peter works for a pulp-paper business where he manages a twenty person team.

In June, they came with their families for a few days on vacation to Cannes, their second home away from home, bringing up fond memories from their past; not nostalgia, only animated memories, smiles and good feelings (even though in the restaurants of Cannes they are still taken for tourists as everyone else). More than twenty years later, nothing has changed. Neither the mutual affection we share, nor… their perfect mastery of the French language.
